Overview
Fieldday supports two types of substitutes:- Game subs — a one-off fill-in for a specific game
- Roster subs — a permanent team member who plays without paying the full registration fee
Game substitutes require the Pro plan or higher.
Game subs (one-off)
Game subs are invited for a single game. They’re visible in the attendance panel with a “Sub” badge and receive game reminders for that game only.Invite a game sub (captains)
Open the game card
Go to My Games, find the game, and expand the game card to open the attendance panel.
Waiver handling
- If the sub hasn’t signed your org’s waiver, they’re prompted to sign it inline before confirming — no separate step required.
- If they’ve already signed your waiver for this org, they go straight to confirm or decline.
After the sub confirms
- The sub appears in the attendance panel with a “Sub” badge.
- They receive game-day SMS and email reminders for that specific game.
- Captains can remove the sub from the attendance panel at any time.
Roster subs (permanent)
Roster subs are added to a team’s permanent roster. They receive all team notifications, appear on the team page, and skip the standard registration payment flow.Add a roster sub (captains)
Roster subs still sign the org waiver before joining. They appear on the team roster with a “Sub” badge and receive all team notifications going forward.
Use roster subs for players who fill in regularly throughout the season but aren’t full-season registrants.
